Kingdom Hearts Goes Portable Three Ways!

Kingdom Hearts, the game that fused the RPG mastery of Square-Enix and the magical characters of the Walt Disney Co., is headed for portables! At its press conference in this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Square-Enix revealed that THREE new games in the beloved series are headed for portable systems: for the Nintendo DS, Sony Playstation Portable and mobile phones. All games are currently slated for Japan release, though I bet some will come to America.

For the DS comes Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, in which you can play Roxas and Axel, two of the most popular Kingdom Hearts characters, in single and multi-player missions. It will probably take place between the events of Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II.

For the PSP comes what will probably be the true successor to Kingdom Hearts IIKingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. It details the adventures of three all-new characters, which were revealed in the Japan-only Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ secret trailer. I bet this will be one of the PSP’s killer applications, considering the notoriety of the series.

And for the mobile phone comes Kingdom Hearts: Coded, an adventure featuring the series’ protagonist, Sora, in digitized form, dealing with mysterious matters involving Jiminy Cricket’s journal.

People seem to be disappointed in Square’s decision to put Birth by Sleep on the PSP as opposed to the PS3. We may not know for some time whether it was the right move.
